Guwahati Police Uncovers Major Theft and Fraud Case, Recovers Rs 30 Lakhs Worth of Stolen Goods
Guwahati, June 21, 2024: In a significant operation, a team from the West Guwahati Police District (WGPD) at Gorchuk Police Station has successfully busted a theft and fraud case, apprehending Kamal Kishor Upadhyay and Dilip Kumar Upadhyay, both residents of Paschim Boragaon, Guwahati. The duo conspired to steal two truckloads of powdered milk packets, identified as ML 10 C 8253 and ML 10 C 6753.
A detailed investigation led the police to a location in Umsning, Meghalaya, where a substantial quantity of the stolen goods was recovered. The recovered items, valued at Rs 30 lakhs, were seized, and Harinder Prasad was arrested in connection with the crime.
The theft occurred after the three suspects were assigned to transport the goods following an accident involving truck AS 01 QC 6782 near Jowai, Meghalaya. The truck was initially transporting the powdered milk from Betkuchi to Silchar when the accident provided an opportunity for the theft.
Legal action has been initiated against the accused, and further investigations are underway.
