Guwahati Police Nab Extortionists Operating Under Militant Outfit’s Name
Guwahati, August 20, 2024: In a significant crackdown on extortion, a team from the West Guwahati Police Department, operating out of the Jalukbari Police Station, has arrested two individuals, Raju Das of Azara, also known as Anup Chetia, and Paban Darjee of Basistha. The arrests were made following a detailed technical analysis that exposed their involvement in an extortion racket masquerading as a banned militant organization.
Raju Das and Paban Darjee had previously been implicated in similar activities, extorting money from various commercial establishments throughout the city. The duo’s recent arrest follows earlier apprehensions by the City Police for similar offenses. Their activities were reportedly linked to attempts to extract funds under the pretense of affiliations with a proscribed militant group.
The arrests highlight ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat organized crime and maintain public order. The West Guwahati Police Department remains vigilant against such threats, ensuring that those attempting to exploit the guise of militant affiliations for illegal gains are swiftly brought to justice.
