Guwahati Police Seize Fake Currency Worth ₹2.08 Lakh, Arrest Sikkim Resident
Guwahati: In a significant operation, West Guwahati Police District personnel arrested a man for possessing fake Indian currency notes (FICN). The arrest took place at ISBT Out Post under Gorchuk Police Station in Guwahati.
The accused, identified as David Rai, aged 26, hails from Rongpo in Sikkim. During the operation, officials recovered 416 counterfeit notes, each of ₹500 denomination, amounting to a total face value of ₹2.08 lakh.
Along with the fake currency, the police also seized a mobile phone from Rai. The operation highlights the continued vigilance of the police against counterfeit currency circulation.
The arrested individual is currently under police custody for further investigation. Authorities are probing whether Rai is part of a larger counterfeit currency racket operating in the region.
This crackdown reflects the commitment of law enforcement to curb illegal activities and protect the economy.
