Guwahati Police Halt Illegal Cattle Transport to Meghalaya, Seize Truck and Car
Guwahati: A timely operation by the West Guwahati Police District successfully intercepted a major cattle smuggling attempt near Bharalu Bridge in Guwahati. Acting on intelligence, officers from the Gorchuk Police Station set up a checkpoint at Katahbari and stopped a suspicious truck, AS 26 AC 1949, and an accompanying car, AS 23 K 0755, both allegedly involved in smuggling 30 cattle out of Assam and into Meghalaya.
The operation unfolded late last night, as officers positioned themselves strategically at the Bharalu Bridge checkpoint following a credible tip-off. The police team halted the vehicles, discovering 30 cattle being transported under poor conditions.
Sources indicate that the suspects were en route to Meghalaya, possibly aiming to evade law enforcement by taking less-traveled routes. The team seized both vehicles and transferred the rescued cattle to local authorities for safe housing.
Officials are intensifying investigations to track down others involved in the smuggling ring. This action underscores the ongoing commitment of Assam’s police forces to tackle cross-border cattle smuggling, protecting both animal welfare and law enforcement standards in the region.
