Cattle Smuggling Busted Near AEC by Guwahati Police; Truck Driver Arrested
Guwahati, September 04, 2024: A vigilant team from the West Guwahati Police District intercepted a truck attempting to smuggle 23 live cattle early this morning near the Assam Engineering College (AEC) checkpoint. The truck, bearing registration number AS 06 BC 1538, was stopped by officers from Jalukbari and Maligaon Out Posts as it was en route to an undisclosed location. The police, acting on a tip-off, conducted the operation successfully, preventing the illegal transportation of the animals.
The driver of the truck, identified as Atowar Ali from Dalgaon, was apprehended on the spot. Ali is currently under police custody and is being interrogated for further information regarding the smuggling network. The seized cattle have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for care and further action.
This incident underscores the ongoing efforts by the West Guwahati Police to combat illegal cattle smuggling in the region.
