Guwahati Police Seize ₹60 Lakh in Fake Currency, Arrest One in Major Operation
Guwahati: In a recent anti-counterfeit operation, a West Guwahati Police District team arrested a man carrying a large stash of fake Indian currency notes (FICN) at the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT). The arrest took place near the Gorchuk Police Station, where Hafiz Ali, a 27-year-old resident of Gogamukh, was apprehended with a bag containing counterfeit notes.
The seized bag held 12 stacks of FICN in ₹500 denominations, totaling 116 pieces per stack. The total face value of the seized counterfeit currency was a staggering ₹60.58 lakh, according to officials. This sizable seizure underscores the increasing circulation of fake currency and raises concerns about broader networks involved in the operation.
The West Guwahati Police District team, operating from the ISBT outpost, acted swiftly upon receiving intelligence inputs. This successful interception highlights the dedication of Assam’s law enforcement agencies to tackling the ongoing counterfeit currency problem across the region.
