Guwahati Woman Fatally Stabbed by Rejected Suitor; Accused Arrested
Guwahati: A shocking murder in Guwahati has left the city reeling. Moushumi Gogoi, a young NGO worker, lost her life after being brutally attacked by a man whose love proposal she had rejected. The incident occurred on the morning of December 26 at Nahoroni Path near Last Gate.
Moushumi, originally from Dibrugarh, had been staying as a tenant in the area for the past month. She was waiting for a Rapido bike ride outside her rented accommodation when the accused, Bhupen Das, arrived in a Swift Dzire car. Accompanied by a friend, Das attacked Moushumi with a knife before fleeing the scene.
Initial reports revealed that Moushumi had filed a police complaint at Pan Bazar Police Station, expressing fear for her life. In her complaint, she stated that Das had been threatening her with severe consequences following her rejection of his advances. Despite her efforts to seek protection, tragedy struck in broad daylight.
CCTV footage capturing the attack was retrieved by police, shedding light on the horrifying sequence of events. Moushumi was immediately rushed to the hospital after the attack but succumbed to her injuries.
The accused, Bhupen Das, was later arrested near a housing complex in Guwahati. Authorities confirmed that Das, a cab driver by profession and married with two children, had attempted to harm himself after committing the crime. He inflicted self-stab wounds and is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital under police supervision.
Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh addressed the incident on social media, confirming Das’s arrest. He assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to ensure justice is served.
This tragic case has sparked widespread concern over the increasing number of stabbing incidents in Guwahati. Authorities have emphasized the need for greater public safety measures and community vigilance.
As the investigation progresses, the city mourns the loss of a promising young life and grapples with the urgent need to curb such violent crimes.
