Hajo, May 29, 2024: In a significant crackdown on narcotics, the Hajo police detained two women for questioning following the seizure of cannabis (Ganja) valued at approximately 4 lakh rupees. The operation, which has stirred considerable attention across the area, took place in the Bormbai Ukhura reserve under the jurisdiction of the Hajo police station.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Inspector Nabojit Nath and Sub-Inspector Amarjeet Das conducted raids on the residences of Jakir Ali and Babul Ali in the Bormbai Ukhura reserve. During the raid, authorities seized around 40 kilograms of ganja. However, both Jakir Ali and Babul Ali managed to flee the scene prior to the police’s arrival.
In connection with the case, the police have brought the wives of the absconding suspects, Jakir Ali and Babul Ali, to the police station for interrogation. According to sources within the police department, the duo has been operating a profitable cannabis distribution network across various districts of Assam, including Hajo, for several years.
The Hajo police’s recent actions underscore their ongoing efforts to curb the illicit drug trade in the region. Further investigations are underway to apprehend the primary suspects and dismantle the broader network involved in this illegal activity.
