Heavy Rainfall to Lash Assam and Meghalaya, Cyclonic Circulations Intensify
Guwahati, June 16, 2024: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecasted relentless heavy rainfall for Guwahati and other parts of Assam, with inclement weather expected to persist until June 20. According to the meteorological department, both Assam and Meghalaya will experience extremely heavy rain on June 16 and 17.
This weather pattern is attributed to a cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam and its surrounding areas, positioned at 1.5 km above mean sea level. The city of Guwahati is anticipated to witness a generally cloudy sky accompanied by intermittent rain, a consequence of this cyclonic activity. The forecast predicts that the state will continue to experience a generally cloudy sky with periods of rain and thundershower.
The meteorological department has also identified a cyclonic circulation over Sikkim, which is currently grappling with landslides due to incessant rainfall. The department has issued a warning for potential thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Furthermore, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in certain regions of Assam and Nagaland.
On June 16, isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to experience heavy rainfall. The public and authorities are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions in response to these weather conditions.
