Heroin Worth Over 1 Crore Seized in Selesih, Aizawl: Suspect Arrested
Desk Report, May 27, 2024: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking on May 25, a team from the Aizawl District Special Branch (DSB) seized heroin valued at over Rs. 1 crore in Selesih, Aizawl. Acting on credible information regarding an attempted sale of heroin in the area, the DSB team swiftly proceeded to Selesih and conducted a search operation near NEC Junction.
During the operation, the team intercepted a black scooter (Access) carrying two large white nylon bags. Upon inspection, the bags were found to contain 311 soap cases of suspected heroin, weighing approximately 3.547 kilograms. The seized heroin is estimated to be worth Rs. 1,06,41,000.
The individual found in possession of the heroin, identified as C.T. Liana (25) from Hmattung, Tahan, Myanmar, was arrested on the spot. Liana was discovered to have no valid documents for entering India. The operation was conducted in the presence of two reliable witnesses to ensure legal compliance and transparency.
A case has been registered at Bawngkawn Police Station under Case No.185/24 dated May 26, 2024, under Sections 21(c) and 25 of the NDPS Act, along with Section 14 of the Foreigners Act. Authorities are conducting further investigations to trace the forward and backward linkages of the narcotics network and to pursue legal action.
This significant seizure highlights the essential role of community support in combating drug trafficking in Mizoram. The authorities emphasize that the active cooperation and synergy of the public, civil society, and all stakeholders are crucial to achieving the vision of a “Drugs Free Mizoram.” The continued collective effort remains vital for the success of this mission.
