Massive Heroin Haul Worth ₹3.5 Crores Seized in Guwahati; 2 Arrested
Guwahati: In a significant anti-drug operation, the West Guwahati Police District (SOG) uncovered a massive heroin haul on National Highway 37 near Guwahati. Collaborating with Jalukbari Police Station and Maligaon Outpost, the team intercepted a suspicious truck and seized 32 soap cases of heroin weighing 364 grams. The estimated market value of the narcotics is ₹3.5 crores.
The vehicle, bearing registration number AS 18 AC 6959, was intercepted near Rishi Marbles in Guwahati. Upon inspection, the illegal substance was discovered concealed within the truck. Authorities promptly apprehended two individuals connected to the operation.
The arrested suspects were identified as Mofizul Ali from Kokrajhar and Surat Jamal from Dhubri. Both are believed to have played critical roles in smuggling the drugs into the region.
This bust is part of ongoing efforts to combat the rising drug trade in Assam. Authorities stressed that cracking down on organized drug networks remains a top priority.
