Himanta Biswa Sarma Announces Key Development Plans for Doom Dooma Sub-District
Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma Reviews Doom Dooma Development Projects
January 26, 2024: After a successful tour of South Korea and Japan, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma returned to the state and chaired an important review meeting on the ongoing development of Doom Dooma in Tinsukia district. The meeting, held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Dibrugarh, focused on ensuring the smooth progress of crucial projects designed to benefit the region’s infrastructure and local communities.
During the meeting, Dr. Sarma issued several key directives aimed at enhancing flood protection, mitigating erosion, and improving overall living conditions in Doom Dooma. One of the primary objectives discussed was the construction of guard walls and sluice gates along the Doom Dooma River. These structures are intended to provide essential flood protection for the surrounding areas, which are vulnerable to seasonal flooding.
In addition, the Chief Minister emphasized the urgent implementation of the Geobag project in the Dighaltrang tea estate. This project is designed to address erosion issues, safeguarding the region’s agricultural landscape and preserving the livelihoods of local farmers. The Geobag technique, known for its eco-friendly approach to soil conservation, will play a significant role in stabilizing the area’s terrain.
Addressing the ongoing issue of human-elephant conflict, Dr. Sarma highlighted the importance of installing solar-powered lights in the Kakojan and Tarani reserve forests. These installations aim to reduce nighttime encounters between humans and elephants, helping to ensure the safety of both wildlife and local residents.
Further developments include the expedited construction of 5,000 toilets across various tea estates in the region. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve sanitation and health conditions for workers living in tea gardens. Additionally, the upgrade of the primary school in Fatikajan tea estate was discussed to provide better educational facilities for children in the area.
With these initiatives, Dr. Sarma emphasized the need for prompt action and close monitoring to ensure that these projects are completed efficiently, ultimately improving the quality of life for the residents of Doom Dooma and the surrounding regions.
