India Clinches Second Consecutive Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup Title with Dominant Win Over South Africa

Sports Desk; February 03, 2025: India’s women’s U-19 cricket team claimed their second consecutive T20 World Cup title with a dominant nine-wicket victory over South Africa in the final. The match took place at Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.

Chasing a modest target of 83, India completed the win in just 11.2 overs, scoring 84/1 with 52 balls to spare. Gongadi Trisha led the charge with an unbeaten 44 off 33 balls, while Sanika Chalke contributed an unbeaten 26 off 22 balls.

Earlier, India’s bowlers delivered an outstanding performance, dismissing South Africa for just 82 runs in 20 overs. Trisha starred with the ball, taking 3/15, while Vaishnavi Sharma (2/23), Aayushi Shukla (2/9), and Parunika Sisodia (2/6) provided crucial breakthroughs.

South Africa struggled throughout their innings after choosing to bat first. Mieke van Voorst was the top scorer with 23 runs, but the team suffered a batting collapse. Only four batters managed to reach double digits, while four others failed to score.

This victory solidifies India’s position as a powerhouse in women’s U-19 cricket. They had previously won the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2023, defeating England by seven wickets in the final. With back-to-back titles, India’s young cricketers have showcased their growing dominance on the global stage.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the team’s achievement, posting on ‘X’ by stating “Immensely proud of our Nari Shakti! Congratulations to the Indian team for emerging victorious in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025. This victory is the result of our excellent teamwork as well as determination and grit. It will inspire several upcoming athletes. My best wishes to the team for their future endeavours.”

The team’s performance in the final was a testament to their preparation, skill, and determination. As women’s cricket continues to grow worldwide, India’s triumph highlights their depth in talent and commitment to excellence.
