India Storms Into 2025 Champions Trophy Final as Virat Kohli’s Record-Breaking Knock Dismantles Australia

Sports Desk; March 05, 2025: India stormed into the 2025 Champions Trophy final with a dramatic 4-wicket victory over Australia in the first semifinal on Tuesday. Chasing a competitive target of 265, India sealed the win in 48.1 overs, driven by Virat Kohli’s stellar 84-run performance. This victory marks India’s third appearance in the Champions Trophy final.

Australia, after being put to bat, managed 264 runs, with Steve Smith top-scoring with 73 off 96 balls. India’s disciplined bowling attack played a crucial role in restricting the total. Mohammed Shami led the attack, securing three wickets for 48 runs. Varun Chakravarthy and Ravindra Jadeja claimed two wickets each, while Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya chipped in with one wicket apiece.

India’s chase started on a steady note, but Australia’s strong fielding and disciplined bowling kept the contest intense. Kohli held the innings together, playing a masterful knock that not only anchored the chase but also set a new record. His 84th run saw him surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 23 fifty-plus scores in ICC ODI tournaments, making him the new record holder with 24.

Supporting knocks from Shreyas Iyer (45) and KL Rahul (42*), along with a crucial 28-run contribution from Pandya, ensured India remained on track. The chase became tense in the final overs, but Rahul’s six in the last over sealed the victory.

India’s well-rounded performance in both batting and bowling secured their place in the final, reinforcing their dominance in the tournament. The team now awaits their opponent for the ultimate clash as they aim for Champions Trophy glory.
