Assam Shines in Asian Lawn Bowls Championships: Nayan Moni Saikia, Bangita Hazarika, Biswajeet Khound Stand Out
Guwahati, March 10, 2024: In a stellar performance at the 15th Asian Bowls Championships in Pattaya, Thailand, Indian bowlers excelled, bringing home two gold and three bronze medals. Arjuna awardee and Commonwealth Games 2022 champion Nayan Moni Saikia showcased her prowess, securing a gold in women’s pairs and another in women’s fours, along with a bronze.
India’s overall standing was commendable, finishing third in the annual event. The women’s pairs team, featuring Assam players Nayan Moni Saikia and Bangita Hazarika, clinched one of the coveted golds. Saikia’s bronze came in the women’s fours, partnering with Manu Pal, Joya, and Rupa Rani Tirkey.
Adding to the glory, Assam’s debutant Biswajeet Khound, a first-timer in the Indian team, secured two bronze medals in men’s singles and men’s triples. The 10-member Indian team, inclusive of four players from Assam, demonstrated remarkable skill and determination on the international stage.

However, it was not only success for everyone, as the under-15 Indian team, featuring Assam players Bitu Das and Karina Patowary, failed to secure any medals in the U-25 Asian Championships 2024.
Durgadas Boro, President of the Lawn Bowling Association Assam, and Secretary Naba Basumatary extended heartfelt congratulations to the medal winners, recognizing their outstanding achievements on behalf of the association and the players of Assam.
