Indian Coast Guard Rescues Fisherman with Second-Degree Burns off Andhra Pradesh Coast
Desk Report, August 08, 2024: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has successfully rescued a 21-year-old fisherman with second-degree burns. The incident occurred onboard the Indian Fishing Boat (IFB) Sengalamman, 183 km off the Kakinada coast.
At midnight on August 7, 2024, the ICG received a distress call from the Assistant Director of Fisheries, Chennai. Acting swiftly, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Chennai directed the ICG Ship Samudra Paheredar to provide immediate assistance. Simultaneously, ICG Station Kakinada was alerted to arrange necessary medical aid for the fisherman upon arrival.
The fisherman, suffering from burns on the left side of his body, was evacuated from the IFB Sengalamman. The medical officer onboard the ICG ship administered initial treatment to stabilize him. After the treatment, the fisherman was transferred to the ICG Ship C-430 for the journey to Kakinada.
Upon reaching Kakinada, the patient was taken to the Government Hospital Kakinada for further medical care. This rescue operation highlights the ICG’s commitment to ensuring the safety of individuals at sea and their readiness to respond to emergencies swiftly.
