Indian Navy and NCB Join Forces to Seize Massive Drug Haul at Sea
Desk Report, February 28, 2024: In a meticulously executed strategic sea operation, the Indian Navy, in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), has achieved a significant breakthrough by apprehending a suspicious vessel carrying an astonishing 3300 kilograms of contraband. The illicit cargo comprised 3089 kilograms of Charas, 158 kilograms of Methamphetamine, and 25 kilograms of Morphine.
This noteworthy operation unfolded as a result of actionable intelligence provided by the Indian Navy’s sophisticated maritime surveillance aircraft, further validated by inputs from the NCB. Responding swiftly to this information, an Indian Navy warship was deployed with precision to intercept a suspicious dhow, heading towards Indian waters laden with a substantial amount of contraband.
The interception took place near the International Maritime Boundary Line off the Gujarat coast in the Arabian Sea. The apprehended vessel, along with its illicit cargo and crew, was subsequently handed over to law enforcement agencies at an Indian Port on February 27.
The Indian Navy showcased exceptional skills in locating, tracking, and intercepting the suspect boat at sea. The subsequent boarding operations on the dhow yielded the largest narcotics seizure in recent times, both in terms of quantity and value.
Post-operation, the Indian Navy warship towed the captured boat to the nearest Indian port, facilitating the seamless handover of the crew and the seized contraband to law enforcement agencies. This operation not only holds immense significance due to the sheer quantity and value of the confiscated contraband but also underscores the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between the Indian Navy and the NCB.
The joint mission serves as a testament to the commitment and determination of the Indian Navy in thwarting attempts to exploit the seas for illegal activities, particularly in India’s maritime neighborhood. This successful endeavor plays a crucial role in disrupting illegal narcotics smuggling routes originating from the Makran coast and flowing towards various Indian Ocean Region (IOR) countries.
The collaborative success between the Indian Navy and the NCB reaffirms their dedication to ensuring the security of the seas and eliminating the use of maritime routes for illegal endeavors in the region. This resounding achievement underscores the proactive measures undertaken by Indian authorities to safeguard the maritime domain and maintain regional security.
