In a decisive anti-narcotics operation, Karimganj Police intercepted a vehicle at Chewali Beel and seized 548.82 grams of heroin, dealing a significant blow to drug trafficking in the region. The operation was conducted under the leadership of Superintendent of Police, Karimganj, Partha Pratim Das, and involved a targeted raid on a luxury vehicle traveling from a neighboring state. The vehicle was intercepted based on intelligence inputs, leading to the successful seizure of narcotics.
Four individuals were arrested during the operation. The arrested individuals, all residents of Patharkandi, have been identified as Abdul Basit, Faizul Haque, Taj Uddin, and Nahim Uddin. They were reportedly involved in transporting the illegal substance across state lines. The heroin recovered from the vehicle weighed 548.82 grams and is estimated to have a significant street value, marking this operation as a major success in the state’s ongoing battle against drug trafficking.
The raid at Chewali Beel was part of a coordinated effort by the Karimganj Police, aimed at intercepting vehicles suspected of transporting illegal substances. The police, acting on a tip-off, successfully tracked the luxury vehicle and conducted the raid that led to the discovery of the heroin.
This operation has been widely praised, with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma taking to his microblogging platform ‘X’ to applaud the police force. “Good job @assampolice,” the Chief Minister posted, reflecting the state’s commitment to tackling the drug menace. The CM has consistently supported police efforts in fighting drug-related crimes and this successful operation underscores the effectiveness of their strategies.
The individuals arrested are now in police custody, and further investigation is underway to determine the extent of their involvement in drug trafficking networks. Authorities are also probing whether these individuals have links to larger narcotics syndicates operating in the region.
Karimganj Police have been actively involved in a series of anti-narcotics operations in recent months, aiming to dismantle drug smuggling routes and networks across Assam. The latest seizure is part of the larger state-wide crackdown on drug-related crimes, which has seen significant success under the leadership of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The arrested individuals will face charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and if convicted, they could face severe penalties, including long-term imprisonment. The operation serves as a stern warning to drug traffickers that law enforcement agencies in Assam are fully committed to eradicating the drug trade.
