Karimganj Police Seize 1,00,000 Yaba Tablets Worth Rs 30 Crore; Three Arrested
Desk Report, September 02, 2024: In a significant anti-narcotics operation on Sunday, Karimganj Police successfully apprehended three notorious drug peddlers and seized 1,00,000 Yaba tablets, valued at approximately Rs 30 crore. The operation, which unfolded on National Highway 6 in the Jalalpur area, was led by Superintendent Partha Pratim Das.
Acting on credible intelligence, the police team intercepted a Hyundai Creta with registration number AS 01 DL 1510. The vehicle, found to have a secret compartment, concealed the massive haul of Yaba tablets, a powerful stimulant that has been spreading across the region.
The arrested individuals, identified as Ashraf Ali, Abdul Hannan, and Pradeep Das, are residents of Katigorah in Cachar district. The seized tablets were being transported from Mizoram with the intended destination of Patharkandi in Assam.
Commending the operation, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the Karimganj Police on the microblogging site ‘X,’ stating, “Kudos to @assampolice for their commitment to a #DrugFreeAssam.”
