King of Bhutan Visits Assam to Strengthen Indo-Bhutan Ties and Review Key Infrastructure Projects

Guwahati; April 20, 2025: Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck recently visited Assam to inspect key regional development projects. The visit underscored the growing partnership between India and Bhutan, especially in infrastructure and trade connectivity.

The King was accompanied by Assam Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah and Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota during the official tour. His visit focused on collaborative efforts that support long-term economic and logistical goals for both nations.

He inspected the Jogighopa Multi Modal Logistics Park (MMLP), a major infrastructure project in Assam. This park is designed to improve trade routes and regional connectivity across the Indo-Bhutan corridor. It will also support Bhutan’s upcoming Gelephu Mindfulness City—a visionary development initiative aimed at promoting sustainable growth and well-being.

The Jogighopa MMLP is expected to transform cross-border trade by providing modern transport and logistics infrastructure. It will help reduce travel time, cut costs, and promote commerce between Assam and Bhutan.

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed the King warmly and expressed gratitude for the visit. He noted that this visit reinforces the deep cultural and developmental ties shared by the two regions.

The King’s visit marked a strong gesture of friendship and highlighted the shared vision between Assam and Bhutan for regional progress.

This visit not only showcased key development efforts but also strengthened diplomatic bonds that have existed for decades.
