Lakhimpur, February 23, 2024: In a significant development, Police in Lakhimpur have seized a substantial amount of counterfeit currency, totaling over Rs 51 lakh. The operation took place in Mohguli, Naobaicha, where law enforcement intercepted a vehicle reportedly transporting the fake notes. The apprehended individual, identified as Abu Hanif, a resident of Mohguli, was found in possession of the illicit currency. Initial investigations suggest that the currency-laden vehicle was traveling from Bangalmara towards Naobaicha, raising concerns about the potential distribution of the fake notes to various destinations.
The discovery of counterfeit currency worth more than Rs 50 lakh has sparked apprehension among authorities in Lakhimpur. Upon inspecting the bag of a detained youth, Abu Hanif, Police uncovered a significant quantity of fake notes. There are fears that the seized counterfeit currency may have been intended for circulation in different regions. Quick action by the Naobaicha police has resulted in the confiscation of the fake currency and the detention of the alleged smuggler, Abu Hanif, pending further investigation.
