Major Heroin Seizure in Mizoram: Two Arrested
Desk Report, June 13, 2024: In a significant operation carried out by the Special Narcotics Police Station, CID Crime, and the 2nd Assam Rifles, authorities seized approximately 2.34 kilograms of suspected heroin near the Saitual Quarry in Saitual District, Mizoram. The seizure, made yesterday, is valued at Rs. 70,20,000.
The operation led to the apprehension of Ginsiankhawmmung, 31, from Bulfek, Myanmar, who was transporting the illicit substances on a two-wheeler towards Aizawl. Ginsiankhawmmung attempted to flee the scene but was successfully apprehended. The vehicle used in the crime has also been seized.
Additionally, Ginsiankhawmmung’s accomplice, Lalthansanga, 39, from Bethlehem Vengthlang, Aizawl, was arrested in connection with the case.
The authorities have registered Special Narcotics PS Case No. 26/24 under sections 21(c), 29(1), and 25 of the NDPS Act, along with section 14(A) of the Foreigners Act, dated June 12, 2024. Investigations are ongoing to trace both the forward and backward linkages of this drug trafficking operation.
