Major Drug Seizures in Assam: STF Intercepts Heroin Traffickers in Two Separate Operations
Guwahati, June 28, 2024: In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, teams from the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam have successfully intercepted substantial quantities of heroin in two separate operations.
On June 27, a team led by Kalyan Kr Pathak, APS, Additional Superintendent of Police, STF, intercepted a motorcycle at the Madanpur Toll Gate in Kamrup. During a thorough search, the team recovered 10 soap cases containing a total of 140 grams of suspected heroin (excluding the weight of the soap cases). As a result of this operation, two individuals were apprehended and legal proceedings have been initiated.
In a concurrent operation targeting narcotics smuggling, another STF team, led by Anurag Sarmah, APS, Additional Superintendent of Police, STF Assam, apprehended four individuals involved in the smuggling of narcotics from Manipur to Assam. The operation, conducted in Guwahati, resulted in the seizure of 27 grams of heroin and the uncovering of significant financial and supply chain details linked to the trafficking network. The key arrests include S Changboi Haokip (38), Letminlal Lhungding (40), Md Shahadat (19), and Rajaur Rafi (24).
These coordinated efforts underscore the STF’s commitment to combating the narcotics trade and maintaining law and order in the region.
