Major Heroin Seizures in Assam: Police Operations Yield Significant Results
Desk Report, June 28, 2024: In a series of significant anti-narcotics operations, Assam police have seized a substantial quantity of heroin, dealing a major blow to drug trafficking activities in the region.
In the first operation, Cachar Police conducted a special raid at Digharkhal Toll Gate, resulting in the recovery of 1.881 kg of heroin. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth ₹9.5 crore. Three individuals were apprehended during this operation.
In a separate incident, Karbi Anglong Police intercepted a vehicle at Borpathar and discovered 1.005 kg of heroin hidden inside. This operation led to the arrest of one suspect involved in the trafficking.
Further, Cachar Police executed another special operation and seized 561 grams of heroin. This haul is valued at ₹3 crore. Two individuals were taken into custody in connection with this case.
The combined efforts of the Cachar and Karbi Anglong Police have resulted in the confiscation of over 3 kg of heroin, significantly disrupting the narcotics supply chain in Assam. These operations underscore the commitment of Assam Police to combat drug trafficking and ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended the efforts of the Assam Police on his social media handle ‘X’, writing, “Well done @assampolice.”
