Gossaigaon, January 20, 2024 – In a significant operation, the Central Range team of Kachugaon Forest Division intercepted and seized a substantial quantity of illegally smuggled timber along with two vehicles in Gossaigaon during the early hours of January 19.
Acting on credible information, the Central Range team mobilized to Ultapani and Saralpara, where they discovered two vehicles loaded with illicit timber. The timely intervention resulted in the seizure of both vehicles, although the driver and smugglers managed to evade capture.
The smuggled timber, valued at approximately Rs 4 lakh, was seized by the forest officials. The seized vehicles bear registration numbers AS 25 AC 8933 and AS 16 AC 4596.
Forest officials, equipped with information about potential poaching activities, launched a search operation, leading to the discovery and subsequent seizure of the illegal timber-laden vehicles.
The Forest Department urges local cooperation and assistance in curbing such illegal activities, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to prevent unauthorized felling of trees. The Central Range team remains vigilant and proactive in addressing any instances of illegal timber smuggling within the region.
