Manipur Police Seize Large Cache of Weapons and Arrest Three Militant Cadres in Major Operations
Desk Report, August 19, 2024: In a significant operation, Manipur Police conducted search operations in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Thoubal District, resulting in a major haul of weapons and explosives. The search efforts led to the recovery of a 9mm submachine gun with a magazine, a 12-bore single-barrel gun, a 9mm pistol, and a .32 pistol. Additionally, they seized two tube launchers, two MK III A2 grenades, two detonators, and six HE-36 hand grenades. Other items included a Chinese hand grenade, 65 live ammunition rounds, five tear smoke shells, a stun grenade, a bulletproof helmet, and a walkie-talkie with a charger. These items were found in the Uyok Ching Leirongthel Pitra area of Thoubal District.
In a separate operation in Kangpokpi District, police recovered a 7.62mm self-loading rifle with a magazine, a bolt-action rifle, two 12-inch single-bore barrel guns, six live ammunition rounds, ten fired cases, and two HE-36 hand grenades without detonators. These items were discovered in the Mission Veng area of Kangpokpi District.
On August 17, 2024, Manipur Police also arrested three active members of the proscribed KCP (Nongdrenkhomba) outfit. The arrests took place at Khori Arcade in Hiyangthang, Imphal West. The individuals, identified as Sanju Wahengbam (20), Soibam Manoj Singh (27), and Soibam Lanchenba Meitei (24), were involved in extortion activities. The police recovered three mobile phones, Rs 50,110 in cash, and a four-wheeler vehicle from their possession.
These operations highlight the ongoing efforts of Manipur Police to maintain law and order in the region by targeting illegal activities and armed groups.
