Manipur Police’s Anti-Militancy Drive Results in Multiple Arrests and Weapon Seizures
Desk Report, May 22, 2024: Manipur Police recently executed comprehensive search operations in the Mongjang area of Churachandpur District. During these operations, authorities recovered a substantial cache of weapons. The seized items included a 12.5 Assault Rifle with a magazine, a single-shot bolt action rifle, two 9 mm pistols with magazines, one magazine of 9 mm CMG, fifteen live rounds, a short-range mortar, and six anti-riot shells.
In a separate incident, police apprehended three members of the proscribed outfit KCP (Taibanganba) in the Khongjom area. The arrested individuals were identified as Konjengbam Akash @Pari Meitei, aged 33, Nongthombam Amujao Singh, aged 25, and Amom Somendro @Kaleipung Meitei, aged 28. From their possession, officers recovered two pistols with two magazines, nineteen live rounds, Rs. 30,000 in cash, three mobile phones, four demand letters, and an Alto car. The suspects were involved in extortion activities.
Additionally, Manipur Police detained six cadres of the banned organization RPF/PLA in the Lamsang area. The arrested cadres were Nandeibam Opendro Singh @ Rishikanta, aged 49, Yumkhaibam Rakesh Singh @ Puri, aged 32, Ngangom Lakhan Singh @Nanao, aged 24, Wangkhem Ratan Singh, aged 47, Heisanam Deben Singh, aged 41, and Moibungkhongbam Binu Meitei, aged 49. Items recovered from their possession included a 9 mm pistol with a magazine, a .32 pistol with a magazine, sixteen live rounds, eight mobile phones, and a Gypsy vehicle.
These operations underscore the ongoing efforts of Manipur Police to combat militancy and maintain law and order in the region.
