Manipur Police Seize Weapons Cache, Arrest Militants in Coordinated Raids
Desk Report, May 30, 2024: In a series of coordinated search operations and area domination exercises, the Manipur Police conducted extensive raids in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Thoubal District. These operations yielded significant recoveries and arrests, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities and militant presence in the region.
During the search operations in Gwarok Ching, Thoubal District, the police recovered a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition, including one SMG Carbine, one 9mm pistol, one DBBL, six HE-36 hand grenades, four tube launchers, two SLR magazines, 58 live rounds, four 12-bore cartridges, two walkie-talkies with a charger, one tear smoke shell (soft nose), and one stun shell (anti-riot).
On May 29, in another targeted operation, Manipur Police arrested two active members of the proscribed outfit KCP (City Meitei) in Thoubal District. The individuals were identified as Lairenlakpam Thoiba alias Sanajaoba Meitei (26) and Singam Kabikanta alias Thoiba Meitei (32). From their possession, the police recovered two 9mm pistols with two magazines, 15 live rounds, a four-wheeler vehicle, and two mobile handsets.
Further operations on May 28 led to the arrest of Chingsubam Johnny Singh alias Chingkhei (38), an active cadre of KCP(MC), from Ngangkhalawai Mamang Leikai, Bishnupur District. The police seized a country-made 9mm pistol with a magazine, three live rounds of ammunition, and a mobile phone. Singh was reportedly involved in extortion from the general public, local businesses, and government officials. A case has been registered for further investigation.
Additionally, on May 27, the police arrested Laishram Rabi Singh (33) from Kwakta Terakhongshangbi, Bishnupur District, for illegal possession of arms and ammunition. The recovered items included one M-16 rifle, one 9mm pistol, and ten live ammunition rounds.
These successful operations by the Manipur Police underscore the persistent efforts to ensure the safety and security of the region by dismantling illegal arms networks and apprehending those involved in militant activities. Further investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of these networks and bring all involved to justice.
