Manipur Police Seize Weapons and Arrest Militant Cadres in Extensive Operations
Desk Report, July 30, 2024: In recent operations, the Manipur Police achieved notable successes in Thoubal and Imphal West districts. The police recovered a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition from Pechi Chinglak near Thoubal. The haul included five HE-36 hand grenades, one SLR magazine, one 40mm lathode shell, one detonator, three smoke shells, 26 live rounds, 52 empty casings, seven HD cartridges, and three unmarked fired cartridges.
In another significant operation, Manipur Police arrested two active cadres of the proscribed outfit KCP (PWG) in Imphal West. The arrested individuals, Huiningshungbam Kenjen Singh (36) and Irom Mikoi Singh (47), were involved in extortion activities targeting educational institutions around Imphal. Recovered from their possession were three mobile phones, a wallet, an Aadhaar card, Rs. 30,690 in cash, and a two-wheeler vehicle.
Additionally, the police apprehended two cadres of the proscribed outfit RPF/PLA in Imphal West. Identified as Wahengbam Tombi Singh (47) and Thoudam Hemchandra Singh (42), they were engaged in extortion from educational institutions and private businesses. Items recovered from them included four mobile phones, a wallet, Rs. 13,520 in cash, and a four-wheeler vehicle.
In a separate operation, the police rescued Mangminlal Kipgen (24) after joint efforts. Kipgen had strayed into the fields of Naranseina in Bishnupur District on July 28, 2024, and was later abducted by unknown persons. He has been taken into safe custody, and his background and details are being verified. The process to hand him over to the concerned authorities is underway.
These operations underscore the ongoing efforts of Manipur Police to maintain law and order in the region.
