Manipur Police Seize Arms and Explosives in Thoubal and Churachandpur
Desk Report, September 26, 2024: In coordinated search operations, Manipur Police and security forces made significant recoveries of arms and ammunition in separate raids conducted in Thoubal and Churachandpur districts. The operations were part of an ongoing effort to curb violence and prevent the circulation of illegal firearms in the region.
During a search operation conducted by Manipur Police and Assam Rifles at Tekcham Maning Ching in Thoubal district, a substantial cache of weapons and explosives was recovered. The items seized include:
– 01 (one) 7.62mm SLR rifle with an empty magazine.
– 02 (two) SMG carbine rifles with two magazines.
– 01 (one) .32 pistol with an empty magazine.
– 01 (one) 9mm pistol with an empty magazine.
– 01 (one) 51mm Para Bomb.
– 04 (four) HE-36 hand grenades without detonators.
– 02 (two) tube launchers.
– 02 (two) electronic detonators.
– 05 (five) STARDYNE-90 explosives, weighing 125 grams each.
– 12 (twelve) live ammunition rounds.
– 01 (one) stun grenade.
– 01 (one) stinger grenade.
– 02 (two) 38mm rubber bullets.
– 03 (three) tear smoke shells.
– 01 (one) dummy shell.
– 01 (one) stun shell.
– 02 (two) tear smoke shell soft nose.
– 01 (one) tear smoke shell (LR).
– 01 (one) Baofeng communication set.
In another operation, security forces comprising the Army, Border Security Force (BSF), and Manipur Police conducted a raid in the Nalon area of Churachandpur district. The team recovered:
– 02 (two) large heavy calibre country-made mortars (Pompis).
– 02 (two) No. 80 grenades.
The recovered items indicate a serious threat posed by the presence of such weapons, which could have been used for large-scale attacks or violence.
The recent recoveries underline the intensified operations being conducted by the Manipur Police and Assam Rifles to maintain peace and security in the region. The seized arms and ammunition have been handed over for further investigation, and the authorities are continuing their efforts to track down those responsible for stockpiling these weapons.
