Manipur Police Seize Large Cache of Weapons and Explosives in Kakching and Thoubal Operations
In a major breakthrough, Manipur Police conducted successful operations in Kakching and Thoubal districts, leading to the seizure of a large cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives. The raids took place on October 5, 2024, as part of an intensified effort to curb illegal arms and explosives in the region.
During the search in Kakching district, security forces recovered a wide array of weaponry and explosives. The haul included three carbines with magazines, an air gun rifle, two single-barrel firearms, and a 9mm pistol with a magazine. Additionally, 14 HE grenades (without detonators), a 51mm mortar, two No. 2 MK-III grenades, and a suspected 4.755 kg container of explosive IED were seized.
Also discovered were four detonators, six tear gas shells, two anti-riot rubber bullets, a stinger cartridge, and two tube-launching devices. The police also confiscated 34 rounds of live ammunition, 25 explosive cartridges, and 18 fired 7.62mm cases. Other items included 10 fired explosive cartridges, a Baofeng communication set with a charger, a helmet, two BP covers, two locally made BP plates, and a pair of jungle boots. All items were found in Wabagai Natekhong, Turenmei.
In a separate operation in Thoubal district the same day, police recovered an SMG carbine with a magazine, a 32-caliber pistol with a magazine, and an SSBL firearm. Security forces also found an INSAS LMG magazine, one 81mm mortar shell, four HE hand grenades, three detonators, 41 rounds of live ammunition, and five green grenades (80mm MK-1).
Additional items seized included two stringer grenades, seven tear smoke grenades, 11 tear smoke shells, two stun shells, five rubber bullets, a Baofeng handset, a TYT radio set, and an equipment jacket. These were recovered from Chingkham Ching in Thoubal.
In another operation in Kakching, Manipur Police uncovered more arms and explosives, including three carbines with magazines, an air gun rifle, two single-barrel firearms, and a 9mm pistol with a magazine. Fourteen HE grenades (without detonators), a 51mm mortar, two No. 2 MK-III grenades, and a 4.755 kg container of explosive IED were also recovered.
Further findings included four detonators, six tear gas shells, two anti-riot rubber bullets, a stinger cartridge, two tube-launching devices, and three arming rings. Police also seized 34 live rounds of ammunition, 25 explosive cartridges, 18 fired 7.62mm cases, 10 fired explosive cartridges, a Baofeng set with a charger, a helmet, two BP covers, two locally made BP plates, and a pair of jungle boots from **Wabagai Natekhong**.
These successful operations underscore the ongoing efforts by Manipur Police to prevent illegal weapons from circulating in the state. The seized items will undergo forensic examination, and further investigations are underway.
