Manipur Security Forces Uncover Large Stash of Weapons in Kakching and Imphal East Raids
Desk Report, August 29, 2024: In a significant crackdown on illegal arms in Manipur, the state’s police, in coordination with security forces, conducted successful operations in Kakching and Imphal East districts, leading to the recovery of a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition. These operations were part of a broader effort to curb arms trafficking in the region, particularly in the wake of recent incidents of arms snatching.
A major operation was launched at Wabagai Natekhong Khulpali Ground in Kakching District. The operation resulted in the seizure of several high-powered firearms and explosive devices. The items recovered included:
– One Sten Mk-V rifle with two magazines
– Two 12-bore single-barrel rifles
– Two 9mm pistols with magazines
– Nine HE-36 hand grenades
– One stun grenade
– Four arming rings
– Four tube launchers
– 29 live ammunition rounds
– 22 fired cases
– Three BP jacket vests
– Two magazine pouches
– One Baofeng wireless set with charger
In a follow-up operation targeting those involved in the arms snatching incidents, Manipur Police executed another raid at Sekta Awang Leikai in Imphal East District. This operation led to the recovery of more stolen weapons and military equipment. The recovered items included:
– Three INSAS rifles with three magazines
– One S. calibre rifle with a magazine
– One INSAS LMG rifle with a magazine
– Two AK-56 rifles with two magazines
– 130 live ammunition rounds
– Two mobile phones
– Nine miscellaneous items, including military fatigues
Authorities are continuing their investigations to trace the origins of these weapons and apprehend those responsible for their distribution. The successful execution of these operations highlights the commitment of law enforcement agencies in Manipur to maintaining peace and preventing further violence in the state.
