Major Arms Cache Seized and Militant Arrested in Manipur Police Operations
Desk Report, July 27, 2024: In a series of coordinated search operations across Manipur, police have made significant recoveries of weapons and ammunition. These operations, conducted in the districts of Kakching, Churachandpur, and Kangpokpi, have yielded a substantial haul of firearms, explosives, and other military gear, underscoring the ongoing efforts to curb militant activities in the region.
During a meticulous search in Kharungpat, Kakching district, the Manipur Police uncovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including:
– 01 Carbine with magazine
– 01 Bolt Action .303 Rifle
– 01 2-inch smoke shell
– 01 SLR magazine
– 01 INSANS LMG magazine
– 05 HE-36 Grenades
– 32 live ammunition rounds
– 05 Detonators
– 17 empty cases
– 02 Helmets
– 01 Bulletproof Vest
– 01 military Belt
– 02 mobile handsets
– 04 Double blast smoke shells
– 05 Smoke Grenades
– 01 green signal Grenade
– 02 rubber bullets (38 mm Cartridges)
– 07 Tear Smoke shells with soft nose
– 05 Tear Gas stun shells
In a separate operation in Laika Mualsau, Churachandpur district, the police recovered:
– 02 Pump-action shotguns
Meanwhile, a search in Bijang village, Kangpokpi district, resulted in the seizure of:
– 01 Improvised Mortar
– 01 9mm Pistol with Magazine
– 02 Single Barrel Rifles (Bolt Action)
– 03 HE-36 Hand Grenades
– 03 Improvised Mortar Rounds
In Imphal East, an active cadre of the proscribed outfit KYKL, identified as Shrimayum Rishikesh Sharma, alias Loijing (21), was arrested in Chingarel Tejpur. This led to a follow-up operation in Thubi Chingkhong, Imphal East District, where police recovered:
– 01 Lethod gun
– 01 Lethod shell holder/jacket
– 11 Lethod shells
