Huge Methamphetamine Seizure in Mizoram: Four Arrested in Major Drug Bust
Desk Report, August 31, 2024: In a significant blow to drug trafficking, authorities in Mizoram seized 9.726 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine on August 29, 2024. The operation was conducted by the Special Narcotics Police Station under CID (Crime) in collaboration with the 2nd Assam Rifles. The drugs, with an estimated value of ₹1,26,43,800, were found in the Bawngkawn area of Aizawl.
Four individuals were arrested in connection with this seizure. The suspects include Zohmingmawia (39) and V. Lalremruati (47), both from Bawngkawn Shalom Veng, Lalnunzira (35) from Chaltlang Lily Veng, and Lalzawmliani (40) from Ramthar Sihpui Veng. All are residents of Mizoram.
A case under Special Narcotics PS Case No. 34/24, dated August 29, 2024, has been filed. The charges include violations of sections 22(c) and 29(1) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Further investigations are underway to trace both the source and distribution networks of this drug haul.
