Mizoram Police Seize 766 Grams of Suspected Heroin in Champhai Operation
Desk Report, April 23, 2024: The seizure of drugs plays a vital role in law enforcement efforts to combat drug-related crime and uphold public safety. On April 21, 2024, at approximately 1:30 pm, Champhai Police in Mizoram conducted a routine inspection on the outskirts of Zotlang (Forest Check Gate). During this operation, they intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number MZ 04A 9119, driven by Benjamin Lalvumsanga from Kanan Veng, Champhai, Mizoram. Suspecting the presence of illegal contraband, authorities detained the suspects along with the vehicle.
The individuals apprehended were identified as Benjamin Lalvumsanga (22) and Zion Lalramchullovi (34), both residents of Champhai, Mizoram. Upon search, they retrieved 65 soap cases containing a brown powder suspected to be heroin, totaling 788 grams and valued at Rs. 23,64,000/-. The contraband was concealed within a red-colored rucksack stored inside their vehicle.
The vehicle and the items were seized in the presence of credible witnesses. Subsequently, the suspects were formally arrested following an explanation of the grounds for their arrest. A case was then registered at the Champhai Police Station, Mizoram, under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This operation underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat illicit drug activities and ensure the safety of the public.
