Mizoram Police Seize ₹17.76 Lakh Worth Heroin; Myanmar National Arrested
Desk Report, September 16, 2024: On the night of September 13, 2024, a team from Saitual Police Station in Mizoram made a significant drug bust during a routine vehicle check at Keifang Dawrkawn. The police halted a Tata Sumo vehicle, bearing registration number MZ 01 L 2167, traveling from Champhai to Aizawl. Upon inspection, the officers discovered 50 soap cases containing 592.57 grams of suspected heroin.
The illicit drugs, valued at an estimated ₹17.76 lakh, were found in the possession of one of the passengers, identified as Ni Dun Lian, a 41-year-old resident of Ngailan Village in Myanmar. The suspect was immediately taken into custody.
Following the discovery, the police registered a case under Saitual PS Case No. 47/2024, dated September 13, 2024. The charges were filed under Section 21(C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, along with the Foreigner Act, Section 14, due to the suspect’s nationality.
The Mizoram Police have initiated a thorough investigation into both the backward and forward linkages of the case, aiming to dismantle the drug trafficking network responsible for the heroin smuggling. Authorities are focused on uncovering the source and destination of the narcotics, as well as potential accomplices involved in the operation.
