Morigaon District Administration Launches Peaceful Eviction Drive in Silbhanga
Morigaon, June 24, 2024: The Morigaon district administration initiated a drive on Monday to clear encroached government land at Silbhanga in Jagiroad. In a notable display of cooperation, most occupants responded peacefully to the administration’s request, vacating the area with their belongings without the need for forceful eviction.
The operation was overseen by District Commissioner Debasish Sarma and Superintendent of Police Hemant Kumar Das, who were present on-site from the early hours of the morning. Both officials engaged with the public, emphasizing the necessity for those occupying Indian Railway land in the Jagiroad Silbhanga area to vacate the premises.
District Commissioner Sarma provided assurances that provisions would be made for students currently undergoing examinations, ensuring their academic pursuits are not disrupted. Despite these assurances, parents have appealed for the eviction to be postponed until the completion of the examination period, pledging to vacate the railway land voluntarily thereafter.
The peaceful conduct of the eviction drive underscores the administration’s commitment to resolving the issue with minimal disruption to the community.
