Nandita Sarkar, Dhubri, January 30, 2024 – In a remarkable decision, the Additional Sessions Judge of the Bilasipara Court condemned nine individuals to life in prison, fined them Rs. 10,000, and ordered them to serve two months of ordinary imprisonment if they didn’t comply.
In Noteapara (Tokrabanda), under the Bilasipara Sub-division of Dhubri district on November 11, 2009, Mojer Ali was brutally murdered. The ghastly incident unfolded when Mojer Ali, a resident of village Tokrabanda, became a victim of a stone quarry-centered clash.
The perpetrators, identified as Ajad Ali, Sahidul Hoque, Jahanuddin, Jamaluddin, Majibar Rahman, Osman Ali, Nurtaj Ali, Azibar Rahman and Kaser Ali ruthlessly took Mojer Ali’s life brutally killing Ali by stabbing to death and injuring other three Rofikul Islam, Younus Ali and Bellal Ali.
The Additional Public Prosecutor of the Court, Tapan Kumar Bhattacharjee stated that, the horrific occurrence came to light after Mojer Ali’s brother, Meher Jamal, son of Bepari Akand resident of village Kajaikata Part-l under Bilasipara police station lodged an First Information Report (FIR) at Bilasipara police station. At the time of delivering the judgement the advocate for the defence was Tofajal Hussain Prodhani and Shanti Uddin Ahmed.

On January 30, 2024, the wheels of justice turned decisively as Additional Sessions Judge Mukul Chetia presided over Sessions Case No. 66/16 at the Bilasipara Sub-Divisional court found the nine accused guilty and convicted Ajad Ali, Sahidul Hoque, Jahanuddin, Jamaluddin, Majibar Rahman, Osman Ali, Nurtaj Ali, Azibar Rahman and Kaser Ali to life imprisonment under sections 147/148/149/323/325/326/302 of Indian Penal Code Act and to pay fine of Rs. 10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand) each and in default to undergo simple imprisonment for two months.
The judgment was met with a sense of relief and satisfaction by the family of the murder victim, who had waited for justice for more than fourteen years. The successful culmination of legal proceedings signifies not only a significant achievement in delivering justice but also a deterrent message against acts of violence and criminality in the region.
