Northeast Petroleum Dealers’ Association Postpones 48-Hour Petrol Pump Strike Amidst Lok Sabha Election Code of Conduct
Desk Report, March 29, 2024: The Northeast Petroleum Dealers’ Association has decided to defer their planned 48-hour petrol pump strike until after the conclusion of the Lok Sabha election’s code of conduct. This decision was made in adherence to the electoral regulations that govern conduct during the election period.
In a recent announcement, the Association stated that while they will refrain from initiating the strike during the election code of conduct, they will actively engage in discussions with oil companies to address the underlying issues that led to the initial call for strike action.
The decision to postpone the strike follows a notification issued by the Northeast India Petroleum Dealers’ Association on March 28. Initially, the Association had declared a 48-hour petrol pump strike, slated to commence from 5:00 AM on March 30, 2024, until 5:00 AM on April 1, 2024.
The Association cited several reasons for their proposed strike. Foremost among them was the lack of enhancement or revision in dealer commissions since 2017. Additionally, the Association highlighted other grievances, including alleged violations of dealer rights by oil companies. These concerns were formally communicated to all oil companies through a letter from the Association.
According to the Association, the operational costs associated with running retail outlets have seen a significant rise over the years. Despite these escalating expenses, the absence of commission adjustments has rendered it increasingly challenging for dealers to maintain and sustain their businesses.
The Northeast Petroleum Dealers’ Association remains committed to resolving these issues through constructive dialogue with oil companies, aiming to find a mutually beneficial solution that addresses the concerns of all stakeholders involved.
