Om Birla Re-elected as Lok Sabha Speaker: PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi Extend Congratulations
Desk Report, June 26, 2024: Om Birla, the BJP nominee, has been re-elected as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate secured the position with the backing of the ruling coalition’s numbers. Following his victory, Birla received congratulations from both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who accompanied him to the Speaker’s chair.
Prime Minister Modi praised Birla’s previous tenure as Speaker, expressing confidence that his experience would further guide the country effectively. Birla faced competition from Congress candidate K Suresh, who filed his nomination after the ruling party and the Opposition were unable to reach a consensus the previous evening.
In his remarks, PM Modi emphasized Birla’s capability and leadership, stating, “His experience of being a Speaker in the last term will help him guide the country further.” The re-election of Om Birla signifies continuity and stability in the parliamentary proceedings as the Lok Sabha moves forward with its legislative agenda.
