Forest Officials Shoot Dead Two Poachers in Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary
Nagaon, June 22, 2024: In a late-night incident on Friday, two brothers were shot dead by forest officials at the Choraihagi Forest Camp area within Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary, part of the Nagaon Wildlife Division. The brothers, identified as Jalil Uddin and Sameer Uddin from Dhingbari Chapari village in Juria, Nagaon district, were found illegally poaching fish in the restricted Roumari Beel area of the sanctuary.
The confrontation occurred during a routine patrol by forest department officials who discovered the illegal activity. The ensuing clash resulted in the fatal shooting of the brothers. Their bodies were subsequently transported to Nagaon Hospital by the forest department overnight.
In the wake of the incident, a significant number of police and forest department personnel have been deployed at the scene to maintain law and order and ensure security. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the full details of the event.
