Police Personnel Arrested for Fraud in Dhubri: Accused of Extorting Orunodoi Scheme Beneficiaries
Dhubri, August 02, 2024: A police personnel has been arrested at Dhubri Sadar Police Station for his involvement in a fraudulent scheme. Rakibul Islam Ahmed, stationed at Golakganj Police Station, is accused of extorting money from beneficiaries under the guise of the Orunodoi scheme.
According to reports, Ahmed siphoned off significant funds, claiming they were for the Orunodoi scheme. After collecting the money, he allegedly disappeared. The first wife of the accused learned of his whereabouts after being pressured by victims demanding refunds.
On Wednesday, victims, led by the member of the All India Democratic Women’s Association, visited Golakganj Police Station. They demanded reimbursement for the money Ahmed collected. During the confrontation, Ahmed allegedly mistreated and assaulted the women.
Frustrated by their inability to recover the funds, the victims threatened legal action and planned to meet the Superintendent of Police, Dhubri. Subsequently, Golakganj police arrested Ahmed. On Thursday night, officials transferred him to Dhubri Sadar Police Station for further investigation.
