Police Seize Suspected Counterfeit Gold in Dhubri, Arrest One Smuggler
Dhubri, June 27, 2024: In a significant operation highlighting the growing issue of counterfeit gold in the region, police personnel under Gauripur Police Station seized suspected counterfeit gold and arrested one individual.
Acting on specific information, Ali Hussain, son of the late Dilbar Khan and a resident of Dangirchar under Gauripur Police Station, was apprehended. Police recovered two pieces of suspected gold weighing a total of 845.24 grams during the operation.
In a dramatic turn of events, authorities intercepted Hussain on the road at Dawbhangi Bridge, where he was allegedly en route to finalize a deal involving the sale of the suspected gold. In the presence of local witnesses, officers seized the two pieces of gold from Hussain.
Following his initial apprehension, Ali Hussain confessed to having brought the gold. Circle Inspector Ratul Haloi of Golakganj, leading a team with Officer in Charge Jitumani Deka and SI Jeetraj Shyam from Gauripur Police Station, subsequently raided the residence of Ahmed Khan in the Dangirchar area. During the raid, they discovered and seized materials and tools used for preparing fake gold.
Ahmed Khan managed to escape under the cover of darkness during the raid. However, the police team successfully seized the materials and utensils hidden inside the thatch in his house. Ali Hussain, who was apprehended earlier, has been taken to Gauripur Police Station for further questioning. The investigation is ongoing.
The rising incidence of counterfeit gold cases in the region underscores the need for increased vigilance and enforcement against this illegal activity.
