Police Seize Truck with Thirty Cows at Assam-Bengal Border, Four Arrested
Agomani, June 8, 2024: In a significant operation at the Chagolia checkpoint on the Assam-Bengal border, police have seized a container truck carrying thirty cows, resulting in the arrest of four individuals. The vehicle, bearing the registration number HR 67 D 6954, was transporting the cattle from Bihar to Chapar via Chagolia when it was intercepted by authorities.
The Chagolia police, acting on intelligence reports, stopped the container truck and discovered the cows inside. Tragically, four of the thirty cows were found dead upon inspection. The police have identified the arrested individuals as Mohammad Hussain and Mohammad Arman from Uttar Pradesh, along with Mohammad Rashid and Abid Khan from Chamoli district in Uttarakhand. The driver of the truck is among those detained.
The operation underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb the smuggling of cattle across state borders. The arrested suspects are currently in custody, and further investigations are underway to determine the full extent of the smuggling operation and any potential connections to larger networks.
