Prime Minister Modi Continues Meditation Retreat at Vivekananda Rock Memorial Amid Tight Security
Desk Report, June 01, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who began his meditation retreat at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial on Thursday evening (May 30, 2024), continued his ‘dyan’ for the second consecutive day on Friday. After spending much of the night in meditation, Mr. Modi rose early on Friday to witness the sunrise from the memorial. He meditated for about 20 minutes in front of the ‘Devi Paadham,’ believed to be the footprint of Bhagavathi Amman, who is said to have meditated on the rock in devotion to Lord Shiva.
The Prime Minister also took a few moments to enjoy the sea breeze and the sight of the imposing 133-feet-tall Thiruvalluvar statue before re-entering the meditation hall to continue his retreat. His meditation is expected to conclude at 3 PM on Saturday.
As Prime Minister Modi remained at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, security was heightened with speedboats from the Coastal Security Group and Indian Coast Guard ships patrolling the area around the clock. Tourists were allowed to visit the memorial from 8 AM on Friday via boats operated by the Tamil Nadu Government’s Poompuhar Shipping Corporation. However, they faced thorough security checks and were prohibited from carrying cameras or bags. While the meditation hall was cordoned off, visitors could access other parts of the memorial, including the ‘Devi Paadham.’
