Sports Desk, April 27, 2024: In a high scoring match, Punjab Kings skipper Sam Curran stages an exciting contest when he won the toss and opted to bowl first as Punjab Kings cruised to a commanding 8 wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024 in a high-octane clash at Eden Gardens on Friday.
Kolkata Knight Riders posted a whopping 261/6 in their allotted 20 overs, powered by stellar performances from their top order. Phil Salt showcased his prowess with the bat, scoring an important half-century alongside his opening partner Sunil Narine, who also scored a blistering 71 off just 32 balls but the two efforts provided serviceable support value from Andre Russell and Shreyas Iyer, who added added crucial runs to the scoreboard.
In reply, Punjab Kings began a relentless hunt for the target, led by an exceptional batting performance from Jonny Bairstow. Bairstow’s unbeaten century of 108 off just 48 deliveries anchored PBKS’ charge to victory. Alongside him, Shashank Singh played a pivotal role with an unbeaten 68-run knock and an unbeaten half-century. Prabhsimran Singh and Rilee Rossouw contributed immensely to Punjab’s cause, as both batsmen registered crucial half-centuries.
Despite Punjab Kings taking the lead, Punjab Kings showed incredible energy and determination, reaching the target of 262 runs with ease in just 18.4 overs and a comprehensive victory for the team was evidence of teamwork and unwavering commitment to the field.
