Rain Forces Abandonment of Crucial IPL 2024 Match Between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders
Guwahati, May 20, 2024: The highly anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) faced an unfortunate turn on Sunday. Heavy rain at the Barsapara Stadium led to the match’s abandonment, disappointing fans and players alike.
Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson, captains of KKR and RR respectively, emerged after a delay only to confirm that the game could not proceed due to the weather conditions. Visuals from the field showed both leaders shaking hands, signaling the end of the day’s play.
The rain initially subsided around 10:30 PM, allowing Shreyas Iyer to win the toss and choose to bowl first. The match was set to be a shortened affair of seven overs per side, scheduled to begin at 10:45 PM. However, the rain returned shortly after the toss, making any further play impossible.
As a result of the no-result match, Rajasthan Royals secured the third spot on the points table. This position sets them up for an Eliminator clash with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2024 playoffs.
