Islamic Holy Month of Ramadan to Begin in Assam on March 2, 2025

Assam’s Central Hilal Committee Announces Ramadan Commencement on March 2, 2025

Guwahati; March 01, 2025: The Central Hilal Committee of Assam has officially declared that the holy month of Ramadan will commence on Sunday, March 2, 2025, following the non-sighting of the crescent moon on Friday, February 28, 2025. This announcement aligns with observations in other South Asian countries, including Bangladesh, where the moon was also not sighted, leading to the initiation of Ramadan on the same date.

In contrast, Saudi Arabia confirmed the sighting of the crescent moon on February 28, 2025, marking the beginning of Ramadan there on Saturday, March 1, 2025.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is a period dedicated to fasting, prayer, and reflection. During this month, Muslims abstain from food and drink from dawn until sunset, engaging in increased spiritual activities and charitable deeds. The conclusion of Ramadan is marked by the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, anticipated to occur on Sunday, March 30, 2025, in Saudi Arabia, subject to moon sighting.

The Central Hilal Committee urges the Muslim community in Assam to observe the fasts with devotion and to contribute to charitable activities during this sacred month.
