Rekha Gupta Named Delhi’s Chief Minister, BJP Marks a Political Shift

February 20, 2025: Rekha Gupta is set to become the next Chief Minister of Delhi, marking the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) return to power in the national capital after 27 years. She will replace Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi. Alongside her, Parvesh Verma has been named as the Deputy Chief Minister. The announcement was made during the BJP’s legislature party meeting in Delhi on Wednesday.

The BJP secured a decisive victory in the Delhi Assembly elections held on February 5, 2025. Gupta, a senior BJP leader, won from the Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency. She will also be the only woman Chief Minister among BJP-ruled states.

Parvesh Verma, known for his strong political presence, secured a major win in the New Delhi Assembly seat. His victory over AAP supremo and outgoing Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was seen as a turning point in Delhi politics. Many political analysts called him the ‘giant killer’ of this election.

The BJP’s landslide victory signals a significant shift in Delhi’s political landscape. With this change in leadership, the party aims to implement its governance model and fulfill key electoral promises.
