Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja Bid Farewell to T20Is Following India’s T20 World Cup Triumph
Desk Report, June 30, 2024: In a significant move, Ravindra Jadeja has joined Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in retiring from T20I cricket, as announced on Sunday. While Jadeja plans to continue competing in other formats, emotional scenes unfolded after India secured the T20 World Cup title by defeating South Africa. This victory marked a historic moment, with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli also announcing their retirement from T20Is.
The final, held in Barbados, witnessed India’s thrilling triumph, sparking widespread reactions from figures such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. After a tense moment where South Africa required 30 runs off 30 balls during their chase, Heinrich Klaasen’s aggressive 52 off 27 balls seemed to threaten India’s victory. However, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya rallied in the death overs, claiming seven crucial wickets and limiting South Africa to 169-8.
India’s victory not only secured their second T20 World Cup title but also capped a series of recent near misses, including losses in the World Test Championship final twice and the 50-over World Cup final at home to Australia.
